MENS 252 WEEK 3

The Discipline of a 252 Disciple

Called to Provide, Called to Give

I. First fruits Reveal the Heart

Genesis 4:3-7

3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his Flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

1 Timothy 3:1-5

3 Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)

Proverbs 3:9-10

9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Matthew 6:21

21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

II. Blessed to Manage, Equipped to Give

Philippians 4:13

13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Psalm 24

1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;

Genesis 12:2

2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

2 Corinthians 9:8

8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
